Tips for Babies
Wait until your baby is well-rested and fed before attempting a photo shoot.

Dress your baby in simple solid colors so that the focus in on your baby and not a distracting outfit.  Try just a diaper or blanket simple always works.

Try a white or light colored blanket for the perfect background. Place the blanket on your bed, on the floor, or drape one over an infant seat.

Use the natural light in your home. Try to ensure any light is coming from behind the photographer, rather than behind your baby; avoid harsh shadows across his or her face.

Get in close when you frame your shot, try to fill most of the frame with your baby. Avoid using the camera's zoom feature, get in closer to your baby yourself. Remember to make sure your shot is in focus. Remove any distractions in the background.

Lie on the floor and get one on their level. Use different angles… and different looks… yawning, sleeping, stretching, and even crying babies can make memorable shots.

Make sure to take pics of all those little fingers and toes. Close-ups of hands and toes make touching accents for multiple photo announcements. Baby toes are my favorite!

Be sure to include big brothers, sisters, and parents too!

Tips for Big Kids
Include them in the fun. Let them help pick out an outfit or a favorite room to be photographed. You will get a better picture if they excited because they get to help. You want to make it fun!

Try to capture natural candid moments. Give them a favorite toy or take a trip to the playground. A forced “cheese” isn’t always the most flattering smile.

Take lots of shots
You have more to choose from and have a better chance capturing an image you love. You never know when an adorable moment will occur so always have your camera nearby. The beauty of digital is that you don’t have to worry about wasting film. You can always delete unwanted photos.
